B5 - Music

I have always listened to a variety of music and never stuck too close to one genre or another so as to experience all styles of sound. Technology and music go hand in hand as regardless of the genre as there needs to be instruments or some form of producing sound.

Punk
When discussing punk rock I believe that a significant band to the genre is The Stooges, a band of the late 60s. Their sound implemented familiar musical jingles with their own grungy style. The iconic lead singer Iggy Pop was truly a performer, and he often moved in demented ways on stage while singing. This definitely attracted a great following and inspired people to not care about what may have been considered normal for the time.

Nineties
When speaking about music of the nineties I believe its crucial to mention blink-182, a band that revolutionized rock during the time. Their crude lyrics and killer musical talent pushed their sound to the top charts where they have remained for some time. Their irreverence for all things appropriate or in the boundaries of societal norm is what makes them such a provocative group. At the same time, they've produced songs that touch the emotions which shows their versatility. Here's a music video that exhibits the type of group they are.

Dubstep
Dubstep is a genre that I got into at a younger age and one of the most prominent artists during that time was Skrillex. Some of his initial tracks were truly groundbreaking and provided people with entirely new bits of sound and mixes of music. Dubstep in general is a genre that has a lot of energy that people feel and his songs invite listeners to go crazy to exert that energy. His music videos always peaked my interest as they portrayed music itself as a supernatural power that has very real impact.

Electronic
Whereas dubstep is more of a radical mixing of sounds that provides a more erratic type feeling, electronic can be viewed as more methodical in its sound. A very popular artist that I enjoyed listening to is a kind of Skrillex counterpart, deadmau5. His guise and music have become well-known and very prevalent as an influence to the genre. Rhythmic tones, longer, and often slower paced tracks are his specialty. Yet they have the same innate ability to reach out and touch the listener.

Techno
Techno is closely related to electronic in its pacing and sound-types, and one of the greatest in the field is Daft Punk. Their use of rhythmic upbeat dance music mixes has etched them into club and house music history. The versatility of their sound is what makes the French duo so memorable, as they blend a variety of styles from different genres. Their look is also part of what makes them so iconic, their various helmets show how they are performers just as much as they are musicians.
